Ergonomics And Musculoskeletal System
Course description
The goal of this course is to introduce students to basic ergonomic principles, specifically those applying to healthy posture and body movements typically used in the clinical practice of dentistry. The first three weeks of the course will introduce students to the normal structure and function of the human musculoskeletal system of the regions of the back, neck and upper limb. We will also present aspects of disease/condition processes, pathology, and therapeutic interventions relevant to anatomy and ergonomics in clinical dental practice.
The second part of the course will consist of an introduction to the fundamentals of dental ergonomics and injury prevention. Through hands-on and on-line demonstrations, students learn about the proper positioning and the posture of the provider, the assistant and the patient within the operatory.
