The Surgical Training in Implant Dentistry Preceptorship program is designed to provide the international postgraduate dentist or recent graduate of a dental school with a curriculum that enhances their knowledge in the surgical aspects of Implant Dentistry and permit the Preceptor to develop surgical skills through model-based, hands-on laboratory sessions. The curriculum includes formal didactic lectures in a classroom setting, mini-seminars that promote active discussions from students, one-hour conferences with other departments within the dental school focusing on the topic of Implant Dentistry as well as literature and scientific journal reviews. The curriculum will also include bench-top hands-on training on plastic models and fresh pig-jaw models so the international postgraduate dentist will be able to develop practical skills in using the armamentarium necessary to perform all of the surgical procedures to enhance their level of competency with surgical techniques used in Implant Dentistry.
A certificate of attendance is awarded upon successful completion of the program. This certificate is not the same as the postgraduate program certificate awarded to full-time international postgraduates in specialty training as a qualification for recognition by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
