Dental Providers & Cost of Care

UCLA is one of the preeminent teaching institutions in the world, the clinical oral healthcare we provide to the community is exceptional, and we value your participation in our educational process. You may choose who provides your service -- either a student dentist, resident or a faculty member. Fees vary by provider, and depending on the provider can be more affordable in comparison to the private sector.

We offer services at three separate physical locations. Our Westwood location, which is next to our dental school houses our general clinic and more than a dozen specialty clinics. Our Faculty Group Dental Practice is in UCLA Health Medical Plaza. We also have a clinic in the Venice Beach area that offers general dentistry and select specialty services.

Dental Students

With locations in Westwood and Venice, our general clinics offer a wide range of services by dental students. Treatment by our student dentists is always supervised by our highly trained and experienced faculty.

Please understand that treatment will be slower than in the private sector as your dental needs help to educate and train our student dentists -- appointments may last up to three hours. We’re committed to a patient-centered care environment, and you can be confident that you will be treated by the best and the brightest students in dentistry.

Cost for Treatment: In our general clinics, fees are significantly lower than the private sector.

Residents

If your dental needs are too complex for a student dentist in one of our general clinics, you may be referred to a residency clinic. Residents (or international trainees in our residency programs) have successfully received a dental degree: DDS, DMD or equivalent and the duration of treatment will be shorter than the general clinic, but still longer than the private sector.

Appointment availability is more flexible and treatment is delivered faster than by student dentists.

Cost of Treatment: Higher than the general clinic, depending on your case, but still lower than the private sector.

Faculty Providers

In the Faculty Group Dental Practice and other faculty practices, faculty members perform dental care on patients. This group also offers a wider range of services in both general dentistry and in all specialties, including pediatric dentistry, orthodontists, geriatric dentists, prosthodontists, endodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, periodontists or orofacial pain specialists.

Cost of Treatment: Fees are comparable to neighboring private practices.

Insurance and Payment

We accept Delta Dental insurance at all of our locations, and Delta Dental Premier at some clinics. We also accept other PPO dental insurance; however, patients will be required to cover the upfront costs. Once the covered benefits are determined, the patients will then be reimbursed. Please note that not all treatment performed may be covered, therefore the patient is responsible for those costs.

We also treat patients without dental insurance who pay with cash, check or credit card, and payment in full is due at the time of service.

Unfortunately, HMO plans including Delta PMI are not accepted. Select clinics also accept Denti-Cal.

For specifics, please contact the clinic directly.
