Board of Counselors' Leadership Institute (BOCLI)

**APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 NOW CLOSED**

Leadership occurs in many different arenas, such as community service, academics, professional organizations, and business. Some people argue that leaders are born but there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate that leadership skills can be learned. The purpose of this program is to share knowledge, experience, and skill sets to help participants establish their goals and objectives, identify their leadership styles, and develop skills critical for becoming successful leaders.

Composed of alumni, friends, and industry leaders, the Board of Counselors (BOC) serves as the Dean’s advisory board to offer support in raising philanthropic funds to advance the School’s academic, patient care, community service, and research programs. Dean Paul Krebsbach and members of the BOC will draw upon their expertise and experiences, as well as many guest experts, to educate participants regarding specific elements of leadership and help develop and refine leadership armamentaria. Most sessions will include an interactive segment.

What is BOCLI?

The Board of Counselors' Leadership Institute (BOCLI) is an elective offering comprised of 10 sessions (two hours per session) held on Wednesday evenings over two quarters in the Ellison Boardroom within the Dean's Office from 6 to 8 pm. This schedule is to avoid conflicts with the traditional dental school curriculum. The first session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024.

Participants will be required to attend all sessions* and complete mandatory assignments in a timely fashion. During the final two sessions, participants will make a presentation of an assigned project. At the successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded a certificate in celebration with Dean Krebsbach and some members of the Board of Counselors. A small program size is necessary to ensure the successful training of the participants. Thus, this class will be limited and only third and fourth-year students may apply.

*Please note we will do our best to accommodate Community-Based Clinical Education (CBCE) rotations.  Further instructions will be given should you be selected.
