Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

The Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology has responsibilities in the DDS and postgraduate training programs. We have optional rotations for medical pathology residents and fellows.

The Section's academic faculty currently consists of two full-time, board-certified specialists in oral and maxillofacial pathology, Dr. Russell E. Christensen and Dr. Yi-Ling Lin. Additional board-certified Section faculty include: a part-time pathologist paid by the practice and holding a without-salary teaching appointment and a volunteer pathologist with a without salary appointment in facial pain.  All perform their continued competency requirements within our section. All participate in the academic and service components associated with the identification, understanding and management of oral and maxillofacial diseases.

Patient Care

This Section provides patient care via the Oral Pathology and Diagnostic Laboratory and accepts biopsy and surgical tissue specimens for diagnosis from dentists and physicians in California and other states.  All services are provided by pathologists who are diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (ABOMP).  We provide expert diagnostic services within the scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
