We are saddened to share that Thomson Sun, D.S.S., a continuing lecturer in the UCLA School of Dentistry’s Section of Restorative Dentistry, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He was 83.

Dr. Sun had taught in the School since 2003, including in the Venice Dental Center, the Restorative Dentistry Clinic, and the UCLA student clinic. He also maintained a private general practice in Santa Monica and treated patients at Cal State Northridge’s Klotz Student Health Center.

“Dr. Sun was an exemplary faculty member in our section for the past 19 years. His vast experiences in dentistry and many story-telling analogies were always loved by students and colleagues alike. We will certainly miss him dearly,” said Dr. Reuben Kim, the Naomi and Jim Ellison Endowed Chair of the Section of Restorative Dentistry at UCLA.

After receiving his B.S. from UCLA in 1965, Dr. Sun earned a D.D.S. from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and children Ari and Gia.
