Introducing Dr. Yusuke Hamada, Program Director in Periodontics

The UCLA School of Dentistry is pleased to welcome Dr. Yusuke Hamada as its new program director in periodontics.

Dr. Hamada began his appointment on Aug. 1, 2022, and will be based in the Postgraduate Periodontics and Implant Surgery Clinic, working closely with Tarrson Family Endowed Chair in Periodontics Dr. Flavia Q. Pirih.

“I’m incredibly honored and excited to join the UCLA Dentistry team as a director of postgraduate periodontics,” said Dr. Hamada. “I endeavor to help carry on the school’s legacy and contribute positively to the student and patient experience.”


Prior to joining our faculty in Westwood, he was a clinical assistant professor and the periodontics program director at Indiana University’s School of Dentistry. Dr. Hamada graduated from Japan’s Kyushu Dental University and went on to receive a certificate in oral surgery and anesthesiology. In 2015, he earned a certificate and M.S.D. in periodontics from Indiana.

Dr. Hamada is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has received numerous awards including the AAP Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring in Periodontics (2017) and the AAP Foundation Nevins Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowship (2019). Dr. Hamada enjoys teaching and conducting basic and clinical research, with a focus on hard and soft tissue regenerative procedures.
