On Wednesday, Jan. 17, the annual UCLA School of Dentistry Board of Counselors' Leadership Institute (BOCLI) welcomes its 2024 student cohort.

A pair of UCLA School of Dentistry faculty members served as guest editors of the California Dental Association Journal's Dental Student Research Highlight 2023, which includes a pair of peer-reviewed publications authored by members of the Bruin scholarly community.

A five-year clinical trial led by UCLA School of Dentistry researchers and colleagues at UC San Francisco aims to test whether nisin, an antimicrobial molecule found in cheese, can be used to treat oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

At each UCLA School of Dentistry commencement ceremony, graduates recite the Dentist’s Oath, which in part reads: I further commit myself to the betterment of my community for the benefit of all society.

Fariba Younai, D.D.S., Chair of the UCLA School of Dentistry’s Division of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences, has been selected as the new Bob and Marion Wilson Endowed Chair.

“This prestigious appointment reflects Dr. Younai’s outstanding contributions to the discipline of oral medicine, dedication to research and community service, and commitment to academic excellence,” said School of Dentistry Dean Paul H. Krebsbach.

A total of 14 faculty members from the UCLA School of Dentistry have earned a place among the top 2% of global scientists, according to recently published lists from Stanford University.

The Bruin scholars recognized in the fourth annual Updated Science-wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators are:

Marc Hayashi, D.M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.D, F.I.C.D., a health sciences associate clinical professor in the UCLA School of Dentistry, has been selected by the California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation Board of Directors as its 2023 recipient of the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award.

Honors presented to two faculty members and case competition awards for a pair of residents punctuated the UCLA School of Dentistry’s presence at the American Academy of Periodontology’s 2023 Annual Meeting, Nov. 9 to 12 in Austin, Texas.
