Dr. Michele Frawley, Class of 2006, is a comprehensive cosmetic dentist at Beverly Hills Dentistry. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola Marymount University in 2001 and went on to receive her doctorate of dental surgery at the UCLA School of Dentistry, where she graduated fourth in her class.

Dr. Frawley furthered her education by doing a one-year General Practice Residency program in Salt Lake City, Utah. She really enjoyed the experience of living elsewhere, and honed her skills in Cosmetic and Implant dentistry. Dr. Frawley was also a clinical professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry for several years and worked with dental students as they strengthened their technical skills and patient interactions.

Dr. Frawley is always active and her curiosity about the world has led her on some great adventures. She enjoys a healthy lifestyle and stays fit by running and working out. She is plant-based/vegan and enjoys cooking for family and friends.

UCLA Dentistry recently caught up with Dr. Frawley who shared more about why she stays involved with organized dentistry:

Q: Why did you choose dentistry & what do you most enjoy about being a dentist?

A: “I chose dentistry as it appeared to be a good balance of science and artistry, work and life. My dad is a dentist, and I saw the enjoyment he got from getting to know patients. I most enjoy transforming people’s smiles and helping them gain confidence through a beautiful, healthy smile. I also appreciate that every day is different—unexpected things always happen and therein lies opportunity for me to grow and expand myself.”

Q: In what ways did the UCLA Dentistry prepare you for your professional practice/endeavors?

A: “UCLA Dentistry has amazing and caring professors who really want students to succeed. I learned professionalism and clinical skills from them. I also now refer to several of my classmates who are now colleagues.”

Q: Can you share a reason as to why to get involved in professional organizations?

A: “Professional organizations provide relationships within a diverse community of dental professionals. I cherish the camaraderie and friendships I have formed as part of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Los Angeles Dental Society (LADS), American College of Dentists, and International College of Dentists. As President of LADS in 2017, I experienced all the ways organized dentistry works for us- advocacy, group purchasing ability, insurances, and helping the underserved. I highly encourage everyone to join.”

Q: What do you do when you aren’t practicing dentistry?

A: “I love to travel! During the pandemic, I took advantage of road trips and went to several National Parks. They are indeed America’s National Treasure! I am looking forward to resuming international travel with trips to El Salvador and Italy planned. I also love hiking, eating plant-based, and personal development.”

Q: If you could share one piece of advice to current dental students, what would it be?

A: “The world is moving fast! There are so many resources out there to learn how to run your practice, market yourself and your services, lead your team, invest your money, etc. Start watching and listening to these podcasts, YouTube videos, Instagram posts, Facebook groups, and chatrooms ASAP! You will be best positioned to join or buy a practice if you can market yourself well.”
