Dr. Lux's background is in microbiology with a specialty in molecular biology. She started her career exploring bacterial swimming behavior on a molecular level and has now expanded her interest to the detailed study of bacterial interactions in biofilms as well as the investigations of health- and disease-associated oral microbiomes.
Dr. Lux’s research interests include the investigation of biofilms associated with periodontal health and disease on a molecular level and in the presence of risk factors for periodontal disease such as diabetes or smoking. The lab also investigates the effect of tobacco- and cannabis products on the cariogenic synergistic relationship between oral streptococci and Candida species. Another line of research in her laboratory examines fusobacterial interspecies interactions on a molecular level.
