This mandatory course for California dentists is a self-study course and has been updated for 2025.
A Board-approved course on the responsibilities and requirements of prescribing Schedule II opioids. (CCR, tit. 16, §1016, subs. (b)(1)(D).) This course fulfills the mandatory requirement (effective Jan. 1, 2023) for licensed CA dentists and includes:
- The practices for pain management in dentistry
- Regulatory requirements for prescribers and dispensers
- Dental office procedures for managing vulnerable or substance use disorder patients

- Understand the practices for pain management in dentistry
- Define regulatory requirements for prescribers and dispensers
- Show knowledge to implement dental office procedures for managing vulnerable or substance use disorder patients
Instructions:

1. In the course confirmation email, access the study materials using the link provided.
2. Review the course study materials.
3. In the course post-test email, access the post-test using the link provided and answer questions to attain a 75%+ grade to pass.
4. Upon successfully passing the post-test, your CE credit/attendance verification will be made available within an hour through another email with a link.
