This course fulfills the mandatory requirement of a Board-approved course on the California Dental Practice Act as defined in Section 1016.(b)1 of the California Code of Regulations for Dentists, RDH's and RDA's. This course includes instruction on utilization, scope of practice, prescribing laws, violations, citations, fines, licensure, the identification of abuse, and mandatory abuse reporting.
Topics include:
• recent updates to the dental practice act
• requirements for initial licensure and license renewal
• guidelines for writing prescriptions for controlled substances
• scope of practice related to dentists and dental auxiliaries
• laws regarding sedation and the reporting of abuse
• types of unprofessional conduct
• principles of the dental code of ethics

• show knowledge of the use of auxiliaries in a dental practice
• know the laws governing the prescribing of drugs
• define the acts that are in violation of the dental practice act
• show an understanding of the dental board enforcement program
