MATE Act: Substance Use Disorders and Pain Management

This self-study course is designed to meet the DEA requirements for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act

This course provides content consistent with DEA requirement for the MATE act and includes learning topics and materials related to prevention, recognition, and care of people with substance use disorders. It includes the categories of substance use disorders, effective treatment planning, pain management and substance misuse.
The DEA requires health care professionals who prescribe controlled substances to complete a one-time-only eight hours of training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
Topics include:
• treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders
• categories of substance use disorders
• effective treatment planning
• pain management and substance misuse
