Dr. Cun-Yu Wang with Award

Three UCLA School of Dentistry researchers were honored at the 52nd American Association of Dental, Orofacial, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) Annual Meeting and Exhibition, March 13-18 in Portland, Ore., while another was nominated for an important organizational leadership position.

The three Bruin awardees are:
Dr. Cun-Yu Wang, Chair of the Division of Oral and Systemic Health Sciences and Dr. No-Hee Park Endowed Chair in Dentistry
AADOCR Irwin D. Mandel Distinguished Mentoring Award

Dr. Karolina Kaczor Urbanowicz, Adjunct Assistant Family
National Student Research Group Mentor Award

Jaclyn Chalmers, D.D.S. ‘24
AADOCR Student Research Day Awards
for Further Evaluation of the Role of MMP-9 in Periodontitis

In addition, Associate Dean of Research Dr. Yvonne Hernandez-Kapila was nominated as one of three candidates for AADOCR vice-president; member voting will take place in the near future.

Chalmers was one of 12 School-affiliated researchers – including dental students, residents, postgraduates, and faculty members – who presented their discoveries during the conference. The full schedule of UCLA Dentistry presenters is listed below.

Other UCLA School of Dentistry touch-points during AADOCR included a booth space on the floor of the Oregon Convention Center where attendees could ask questions about the School’s grant-funded research programs, or simply pick up some fun, branded promotional items.

Finally, no professional conference is complete without a networking component. On Thursday, March 16, Dr. Hernandez-Kapila and school of Dentistry Dean Dr. Paul Krebsbach hosted a mixer at the Duniway Hotel. The School’s traveling delegation as well as alumni based in the Pacific Northwest gathered for hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and conversation about the robust research initiatives underway at UCLA.
