Comprehensive Overview of TMD and Orofacial Pain

Fridays and Saturdays: 8 a.m. to noon (last Saturday until 1 p.m.)
This three-session live virtual course will be comprised of lectures on temporomandibular joint disorders and UCLA’s clinical protocols on examining, diagnosing, and treating patients with TMD (myofascial and TMJ disorders), primary headaches, neuropathic pain (including trigeminal neuralgia), as well as protocols for the management of obstructive sleep apnea. The course will include a review of common oral, topical, and injectable medications used in an orofacial pain practice. Clinical examples will be given and discussed, and Q&A sessions with the course director are encouraged both during the course and between sessions.

Learning Objectives
Completion of this course will allow the participant to:
- Identify diagnostic criteria for various orofacial pain disorders
- Know the treatment options available in a typical orofacial pain practice
- Choose various types of imaging, when to order, and what type to order
- Understand medications, dosages, and common adverse effects to be aware of
- Apply learning on oral appliance therapy for OSA, indications, contraindications, and protocols
