Dr. Henry H. Takei, who passed away on July 29, 2026, was a remarkable clinician, educator, mentor, colleague, and friend whose kindness, humility, enthusiasm, and commitment to excellence touched countless lives. During nearly six decades at the UCLA School of Dentistry, he helped establish one of the nation’s premier postgraduate periodontics programs, co-founding the Periodontics Residency Program, and educated and mentored thousands of students, residents, and colleagues around the world.

On behalf of Dr. Takei’s family and the UCLA School of Dentistry Section of Periodontics, we hope you will join us as we come together to remember, honor, and celebrate his extraordinary life and enduring legacy. This special event will bring together alumni, colleagues, former students, friends, and members of the UCLA community to honor his extraordinary life and legacy.

His legacy extends far beyond his many professional accomplishments. Dr. Takei believed deeply in mentorship, lifelong learning, service, and, above all, the importance of relationships. His dedication to education, clinical excellence, international collaboration, and the people around him continues to inspire generations of clinicians and educators.

Dr. Takei meant so much to his family, friends, colleagues, and to generations of students, residents, alumni, and faculty who became part of his extended UCLA family. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, respect, and wonderful memories that have already been shared.
