DDS/PhD Dual Degree Program

The UCLA School of Dentistry offers a combined DDS/PhD program for students seeking a career in academic dentistry. The integrated curriculum allows the student to earn a DDS degree and a PhD in Oral Biology in approximately seven years. The majority of DDS/PhD students satisfy the graduation requirements for the DDS during the first four years while also completing the Oral Biology core curriculum, identifying a research mentor, and beginning their dissertation research. During the remaining three years the student focuses entirely on research activities.

Please note: Students interested in the DDS/PhD program are required to apply and be accepted independently to both the DDS and the PhD in Oral Biology programs.
