Zhong Zheng, Ph.D. has also been extensively engaged in research on developing functional biomaterials for tissue engineering, such as using silver nanoparticle-based materials to improve orthopaedic surgeries. During 12 years of using fibromodulin (FMOD) to manage cutaneous wound healing, he was the first person to generate the FMOD-related peptide to reduce scar formation. Recently, Dr. Zheng is focused on developing cell-based regenerative medicines for musculoskeletal tissue engineering. He is the first person that established a novel, technically undemanding FMOD-based approach to reprogram somatic cells without any genetic modifications. Currently, Dr. Zheng is an active reviewer for many other scientific journals such as Trends in Biotechnology, Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, SMALL, Biomaterials, Protein & Cell, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Advanced Healthcare Materials, Oncogene, Metabolic Engineering, and Acta Biomaterialia.
