Dr. Yan Wang, Ph.D., is an assistant adjunct professor in the section of Public and Population Health, within the Division of Oral and Systemic Health Sciences. She joined the dental school faculty in 2023. Dr. Wang specializes in survey design, sampling algorithms, and the application of data science and machine learning techniques.
Dr. Wang is currently leading a study on the oral microbiome of Kenyan children and adolescents who have been living with HIV and taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) for more than ten years. She was recently awarded the 2023 CHIPTS mentored grant to study resilience among youth living with HIV in the informal settlements of Nairobi.
Dr. Wang has also achieved significant milestones in her first year as Principal Investigator (PI) for the NIDCR funded K01 project, "Oral microbiome establishment and development of Latinx Children at the US-Mexico border." She is a Co-Investigator on multiple NIH R01 projects and an LA County-sponsored initiative.
Recently elected as Vice President of the AADOCR Southern California Section, she will serve in this role from 2024-25 before progressing to president for the following two years. She was selected for the UCSF Summer Visiting Professor Program at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. This prestigious program includes a seed grant from NIH/NIAID to support her continued career development.
