Dr. Henry H. Takei Endowed Periodontal Symposium
Third Biennial Edition Coming 2027!
The second biennial Dr. Henry H. Takei Periodontal Symposium was held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at the Meyer & Renee Luskin Conference Center on the UCLA campus. The keynote speaker was Dr. Pierpaolo Cortellini, who presented Saving Compromised Teeth with Regeneration, an Evidence-based Approach.

About the Takei Symposium
The Henry H. Takei Endowed Periodontal Symposium brings together the UCLA Periodontics community and peers from across the globe to learn from world-renowned experts in the field, and to encourage the pursuit of postgraduate periodontal training among UCLA School of Dentistry students. The program honors Dr. Takei’s storied five-decade career promoting our traditions of excellence in education, patient care, research, and service.
Following an outpouring of support and as a testament to Dr. Takei’s legacy in the periodontal community, the fundraising goal to formally establish the endowed Symposium bearing his name was quickly met, ensuring robust educational programming for years to come.
About Dr. Henry H. Takei
Henry H. Takei, D.D.S., M.S. is a distinguished clinical professor in the UCLA School of Dentistry's Section of Periodontics, joining the School's faculty in 1967. In addition, he serves as a consultant in periodontics at the Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles and is a Visiting Professor at Japan's Meikai University. Among many career accolades, Dr. Takei earned the 2006 Master Clinician Award from the American Academy of Periodontology, the organization's highest clinical honor.
In addition to conducting clinical research, Dr. Takei has developed educational materials for undergraduate and graduate education in periodontics and implant surgery. He has also been active in continuing education throughout the world having presented more than 600 lectures and seminars.
