T90/R90 Training Programs

UCLA Dentist-Scientist and Oral Health-Researcher Training Program

The UCLA-NIDCR T90/R90 Research Training Program aims to provide multidisciplinary research training opportunities for predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees to conduct basic, translational, and clinical research with a dental, oral, and craniofacial focus. Career development activities are an additional central component for the trainees.

We provide five training tracks for U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents (T90). We also provide training support for non-citizen dentist-scientists, who currently reside in the U.S. and intend to pursue careers in dental, oral or craniofacial research at organizations located in the U.S. (R90).

  • Dentist-Scientist Trainee Program (DSTP) (T90)
  • Dentist-PhD Program (D-PhD) (T90/R90)
  • Dentist-Scientists Postdoctoral Fellow (DSPF) (T90/R90)
  • Predoctoral PhD Trainee (PhD) (T90)
  • Oral Health Postdoctoral Fellow (OHPF) (T90)

Research Training Areas

We offer an interdisciplinary training program that links trainees to faculty mentors at the School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, School of Engineering, Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Molecular Biology Institute, Stem Cell Institute, and California NanoSystem Institute. Trainees will have opportunities to receive research training in four areas of emphasis conducted in the laboratories of 20 participating faculty mentors:

  • Cancer Biology, Oral Cancer & Stem Cells
  • Craniofacial Biology, Bioengineering & Regenerative Medicine
  • Microbes – Virulence Mechanisms and Advanced Imaging by Cryo-electron Microscopy
  • Translational Genetics, Epigenetics & Genomics
