Rana Al-Rasheed, B.D.S., a health sciences clinical instructor in the UCLA School of Dentistry’s Section of Interdisciplinary Dentistry, is the featured guest in the April 10, 2026, episode of UCLA Health’s Medically Speaking podcast, where she discusses the critical role oral health plays in overall well-being.

In the episode, titled Oral Health: Why It Matters More Than You Think, Dr. Al-Rasheed joins host Eve Glazier, M.D., M.B.A., to examine the growing body of evidence linking oral health to systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic illnesses. Drawing on her clinical expertise and whole-person approach to care, Dr. Al-Rasheed emphasizes that the mouth can serve as an early indicator of broader health concerns.

“We all know to be healthy, you need to have a good diet, exercise, sleep well, see your doctor when needed, and have some sort of mind-body intervention for spiritual heath,” Dr. Al-Rasheed explained in the conversation. “Integrative dentistry puts oral health at the heart of overall health.”

Serving as a group practice director in the School’s Dental Student General Clinic, Dr. Al-Rasheed focuses on the connection between oral and systemic health, with an emphasis on preventive care and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is also a graduate of the Dr. Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona and was a lecturer during UCLA Health’s November 2025 conference, An Integrated U: Modulating Inflammation through Integrative Health.

Dr. Glazier is an internal medicine physician at UCLA Health, President of the UCLA Health Faculty Practice Group, and a Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, known for her work in patient education and public‑facing medical communication. On Medically Speaking, she engages UCLA experts in conversations that translate complex health topics into practical insights for a broad audience.
